GBGSA President's Letter

Dear GBGSA member,

I would personally like to thank all of those who attended any of our three 2015 GBGSA events. A special thank you to the host Superintendents, Golf Professionals and their respective staff at all of the venues last season. Without the help of these individuals these events would not be possible. Lastly, a special thank you to the Board of Directors who volunteer their time to make these events a success.

It has been quite the off season with an extremely mild and wet fall causing some concern with winter preparation and application timing and of course a roller coaster of a winter with the freezing and thawing of our beloved snow blankets. That being said, I hope everyone and their properties wintered well and have a successful 2016!

We are always looking for corporate sponsorship and prizing. If you are looking to sponsor an event please contact Paul Snider from Batteaux Creek at psnider.bcgc@golfnorth.ca

Moving forward this season we will continue as an association to sponsor the following initiatives

  • GBGSA (Jay Lavis Memorial) Scholarship
  • BAGS Tour
  • Guelph Turfgrass Institute
  • Norman McCollum Bursary

Unfortunately last season there were no entries for the GBGSA Scholarship and have decided to move those allocated funds to Junior Golf (BAGS Tour). We were able to supply the tour with over $3000.00 retail worth of Cobra and Puma gear. The GBSGA strongly encourages you to have your interns and students apply for this Scholarship. Information and criteria are all on our website www.gbgsa.com

The only funding available for us to support these worthwhile initiatives are the membership dues each year. This money goes directly towards our support of turfgrass students as well as junior golf within our region. Please click here to register and pay your 2016 member dues today.

Please ensure that you are a registered member before signing up for this year’s three events.

If you are interested in hosting an event for the 2017 season please contact me at nbell@muskokahighlands.com.

I wish you all a great spring and look forward to seeing you all at our first event!
